Just 11 miles south of Puerto Vallarta's busy shops discos and restaurants lies Boca de Tomatlan a tranquil inlet and seaside village surrounded by hills with luxuriant tropical growth. A mountain stream forms a lagoon just before cutting a lazy path through the beautiful beach into the lovely inlet. Small fishing boats with their morning catch return soon after sunrise followed by pelicans, seagulls and white cranes. In the afternoon children can be seen playing and laughing in the lagoon and frigate birds soaring in the clear blue sky.

The scene is of Mexican coastal village life, not a fast paced tourist locale. There is one good, casual restaurant in the village and palm thatched seafood places on the beach on the other side of the lagoon. Half a mile away are two very good sea cliff restaurants with spectacular ocean views and, of course, Vallarta is a scenic 15 minute bus ride away.

Villas Lagunamar is right on the beach and lagoon with large private terraces affording panoramic views of this wonderful ever-changing vista.
The units are designed and decorated in Mexican Hacienda style with completely equipped kitchens and maid service. From your beach there are numerous boats available, either privately or in group to the nearby beaches of Las Animas, Quimixto and Yelapa with tropical waterfalls and which are only accessible by boat and have the atmosphere of exotic south Pacific Islands.

A variety of other activities include snorkeling, parasailing, water-skiing, horseback riding, jungle and mountain hiking and a half hour trip up into the mountains takes you to the quaint non-touristy farming village of El Tuito.
